How can I register copyright for my own manuscript?

06.03.2024 Aleksandrs Koposovs, the member of the board

There is no such organization in Latvia that could do this like the Patent Board, which deals with the registration of trademarks and designs. But still the copyright law protects this copyright object (manuscript).

According to Article 2, Part 1 of this law, copyright belongs to the author as soon as the work is created. The only thing you need to do is to provide yourself with documentary evidence that the author was the first and it was he who created this work. The way of securing the evidence is the recording of a legal fact before a sworn bailiff. He can reflect this manuscript in printed form and prepare an act of recording legal facts. Thus, a document will appear stating that the author at a specific time declared authorship of a specific work, and in the event of a dispute, this document can help defend his right to authorship.
