A citizen of Latvia who is also a citizen of another country or who is guaranteed citizenship of another country has the right to renounce Latvian citizenship.
A citizen of Latvia who has acquired the citizenship of an unacceptable country in accordance with the Citizenship Law must submit an application for renunciation of Latvian citizenship within 30 days after receiving it.
An application for renunciation of citizenship can be rejected if a citizen of Latvia has not fulfilled tax obligations or other financial obligations in relation to the state of Latvia.
Required documents:
- Statement of waiver;
- Identity card of a citizen of Latvia (passport, identification card); (when sending documents by post, it is necessary to send ONLY a COPY of the identity document);
- A document confirming that the person has the citizenship of another country or is guaranteed citizenship of another country; (when sending documents by post, it is necessary to send ONLY a COPY of the passport or ID card);
- Document confirming the payment of the state fee in the amount of 21.34 euros.

Where can I apply?
At the moment, documents can be submitted to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs only remotely (by mail or electronically – signed with an electronic signature).
A person must submit the documents required to request a permanent residence permit within 30 days after the entry into force of the decision on the loss of the status of a Latvian citizen.
You need to submit the following documents to apply for permanent residence:
- a questionnaire;
- a copy of the passport;
- photo;
- scan of payment of state fee.
