On April 6, 2020, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Latvia I. Vinkele in accordance with Section 17, Paragraphs one and three of the Law “On the Activities of State Institutions During an Emergency Situation Related to the Spread of Covid-19” has issued a regulation of the Minister of Health No.75 “On Medical Certificates”, which states that the issuance of medical opinions and certificates regarding health examinations specified in regulatory enactments regarding the circulation of weapons has been suspended for the period of the emergency situation.

In addition, if the period of validity of a medical opinion and certificate regarding health examinations already issued expires during an emergency situation, the period of use of such medical opinion and certificate regarding health examinations shall be extended by three months after the end of the emergency situation.

This also applies to the issue of medical opinions and certificates regarding health examinations required for security activities, detective activities, the movement of pyrotechnic articles, the movement of explosives and blasting devices for civilian use, and road and sea vessel traffic.
