Residence permit in Latvia on all grounds provided by law

1) KINSHIP – getting a residence permit by relatives (up to the third step) to a citizen or a non-citizen of Latvia or to a foreigner holding a permanent residence permit ;

6) EDUCATION – obtaining a residence permit:

a. for the period of study of a pupil or student of the full time of study at an accredited educational institution;

b. if a foreigner has mastered a doctor or master’s curriculum in a higher educational institution, received a state-recognized diploma of a higher educational institution on the development of this curriculum and requested a residence permit no later than 3 months after receiving this diploma;

7) MEDICAL TREATMENT – obtaining a residence permit for the period specified in the treaty on treatment in an inpatient institution;

8) MARRIAGE – obtaining a residence permit by a spouse of a citizen or non-citizen of Latvia or a foreigner who has a permanent residence permit in Latvia;

9) Obtaining a residence permit by the parents of a citizen or non-citizen of Latvia who have reached retirement age;

10) CITIZENSHIP – obtaining a residence permit by a foreigner who was a citizen of the Republic of Latvia as of June 17, 1940 or one of whose parents is a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania;

11) ASYLUM:

a. Obtaining a residence permit by a person who has been granted an alternative status in accordance with the procedure established by the Asylum Law;

b. Obtaining a residence permit by a person who has been granted temporary protection in the manner prescribed by the Asylum Law;

12) INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS – obtaining a residence permit for the implementation of an international project or agreement in which Latvia participates;

13) Obtaining a residence permit based on the assistance provided to state or municipal structures of Latvia;

14) RELIGIOUS ACTIVITY – obtaining a residence permit for religious activities;

15) GUARDIANSHIP OR TRUSTEESHIP – obtaining a residence permit by a person over whom guardianship or trusteeship is established, or who is appointed as the guardian or trustee;

16) ENTRY IN THE MONASTERY – obtaining a residence permit by a foreigner who entered the monastery;

17) STUDENT EXCHANGE – obtaining a residence permit if staying in Latvia is connected with the exchange of pupils or students, practice or internship in educational institutions of Latvia or in a commercial company registered in the Commercial Register;

18) DISSOLUTION OF MARRIAGE – obtaining a residence permit before the effective date of the court decision on the dissolution of the marriage and establishment of the place of residence of the child, if the child is born within the marriage, who is a citizen or non-citizen of Latvia;

19) CRIMINAL CASES – if it is necessary for a foreigner to stay in Latvia until the completion of the investigation or the consideration of a criminal case in court;

20) PERMANENT RESIDENT OF THE EU – obtaining a residence permit in Latvia if a foreigner, leaving for another state, loses the status of a permanent resident of the EU;

21) PERMANENT RESIDENT OF THE EU – obtaining a residence permit in Latvia if a foreigner has a permanent residence permit valid in another EU country and there is no reason to apply for a residence permit on any other basis;

22) VISA-FREE REGIME – obtaining a residence permit by a foreigner who has reached retirement age and who can enter and stay in Latvia in accordance with international agreements on the abolition of visa requirements;

23) Obtaining a residence permit by a foreigner who has been granted the status of a stateless person in Latvia;

24) INVESTMENT:

a. into the equity capital of a Latvian company (in the amount of 50,000 or 100,000 euros);

b. purchase of a real estate in the amount of at least 250,000 euros;

c. investments in subordinated capital of a credit institution in the amount of at least 280,000 euros;

d. purchase of interest-free government bonds in the amount of at least 250,000 euros
